WEEKEND: 9 stories to watch in Arizona

So you can stay ahead of the news, here's a quick look at some of the stories ABC15 will be keeping an eye on Saturday, December 7, through Monday, December 9.

SATURDAY 12/7/13

WEATHER
There is a 50 percent chance of rain the Valley Saturday night into Sunday morning.

PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIP
The Arizona State Sun Devils host the Stanford Cardinal in the Pac-12 Championship game, with a Rose Bowl bid on the line. 5:45pm, Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe.

CRAZY BUSY TEMPE
There are a number of large events in downtown Tempe on Saturday in addition to the Pac-12 Championship Game, including the Festival of the Arts on Mill Avenue, two shows of Evita at Gammage, a swim festival at the Mona Plummer Aquatics Center, and a women's college basketball event at Wells Fargo Arena. Heavy traffic and parking challenges are expected with up to 300,000 people in the area Saturday.

WORLD WAR II MEMORIAL
The state's nearly-completed World War II Memorial will be dedicated at an event being held on Pearl Harbor Day. The heart of the memorial consists of the historic gun barrels from the USS Arizona and the USS Missouri and the names of the approximately 2,000 Arizonans who died in World War II. 9:45am, Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza, Phoenix.

APS ELECTRIC LIGHT PARADE
The annual APS Electric Light Parade rolls through the streets of Central Phoenix to put the city in the holiday spirit. The parade's theme this year is "Wild West Holiday Roundup." 7pm, Central & Bethany Home to 7th Street & Indian School, Phoenix. The parade will air on ABC15 on Sunday at 4pm.

SUNDAY 12/8/13

RAMS AT CARDINALS
The 7-5 Arizona Cardinals host the 5-7 St. Louis Rams as the Cardinals hang onto the fringe of the NFC playoff hunt. 2:25pm, University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale.

SELECTION SUNDAY
Fiesta Bowl officials will announce the teams that will be playing in the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl and the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. 6:45pm, Ziegler Fiesta Bowl Center and Museum, Scottsdale.

MONDAY 12/9/13

US AIRWAYS MERGER CLOSING
The US Airways merger with American Airlines will legally close on Monday. New American Airlines CEO Doug Parker will remotely ring the opening bell of the NASDAQ from a hangar at DFW Airport in Dallas on Monday morning. The airline will hold an employee celebration at US Airways Corporate Headquarters, Tempe at 2pm.

BAND TEACHER SENTENCING
Tempe High School assistant band director Andrew Islas Jr., who pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse against a student at the school, is scheduled to be sentenced. 8:30am, Maricopa County Superior Court, Phoenix.
