PHOENIX - AAA insurance is offering several tips to reduce the risk of auto theft in light of Phoenix's recent placement on the annual "Hot Spots" vehicle theft report for 2014.
Phoenix was among few areas to actually climb in the National Insurance Crime Bureau's rankings, up eight spots on the list to the 75th place. According to the NICB, most vehicles are stolen for their parts, though some are stolen for the sake of joyriding.
AAA reminds drivers to never leave their keys in the car and never leave a car running unattended. Drivers should also park in well-lit areas and have car alarms installed.
Drivers should always remember to lock their cars and park them in a locked home garage if possible.
AAA also recommends drivers have their vehicles VIN numbers etched onto every piece of glass and every window in the vehicle. Ignition kill switches should also be installed and hood, tire, or gear shift locks used.
