A cancer diagnosis is about as bad as it gets and that news literally crippled a Paradise Valley woman even after her treatment was done.

"I was ashamed that I didn't seem to be able to cope with it as well as I thought other people could cope with it," says Marika Hamilton Meeks.

She was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer at the age of 39. That shame she felt started to ruin her life. She needed to be rescued.

"It felt like falling through the floors of a building," says Hamilton Meeks.

But Stella, a two-year-old Pitbull pup, changed everything for her.

The two met at an adoption event and life hasn't been the same for both. Stella has a new home and is helping Hamilton Meeks with a form of PTSD she developed during her cancer treatment.

The rest of the family, also grateful for Stella.

Hamilton Meeks published a coloring book and story now available on Amazon, hoping others will look at a Pitbull differently and maybe adopt one.

The coloring part can help reduce stress but it's the story she hopes can help rescue someone else.
