President Obama proclaims November 15 as America Recycles Day and asks people to do more

President Barack Obama proclaimed November 15 as America Recycles Day, asking Americans to reduce, reuse and recycle, according to the White House .

In a proclamation, the president asked the people to not only continue their efforts to make the country more sustainable, but in light of Thanksgiving, he asked Americans reduce food waste by donating to local food banks and pantries as part of the Food Recovery Challenge.

President Obama said in the proclamation, "Let us commemorate America Recycles Day by taking bold action to preserve our natural resources, strengthen our economy, and protect the bountiful landscapes we have been blessed with." 

According to the proclamation, America Recycles Day has been celebrated for 15 years.
