Pima County Sheriff's Department warns of law enforcement impersonator scam

CASA GRANDE, AZ - The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is warning the public of a scam in which a suspect impersonates a law enforcement official and attempts to scam victims into paying fines and tickets.

The suspect claims to be Lt. Brown and tells the victims they have fines for unpaid tickets, outstanding warrants, or missed jury duty and they must be taken care of immediately or a warrant will be issued for their arrest, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

The scammer tells victims to purchase a Green Dot card to pay the amount owed and then provide him with the number on the back of the card, police said.

The suspect’s phone number is tracked back to a pre-paid cellular account out of Casa Grande, police said.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department does not call the public to collect fines for unpaid tickets and is warning the public not to provide personal information over the phone.

If you become a victim of this scam, you are asked to call 911 and make a report
