Oklahoma tornado: Arizona chapter of Red Cross responds to situation

PHOENIX - The Grand Canyon chapter of the Red Cross is ready to respond to the tornado emergency in Moore, Oklahoma, but it hasn't yet been asked to send volunteers, a spokesperson said.

Spokeswoman Trudy Thompson Rice said that Arizonans with loved ones in Moore should download the Red Cross Tornado App for their smartphones.

"The app will keep you up to date on the tornadoes and the help that is available to those affected," Thompson Rice said.

The Red Cross has already opened three shelters in the area near the tornado for those who have lost homes. Thomspon Rice said there haven't been any volunteer deployments from Arizona, but added that might change as the situation develops.

The app is available for download at www.redcross.org or from the Apple and Android app stores.
