SCOTTSDALE, AZ - Police around the state are continuing saturation patrols in an effort to catch drivers who are under the influence this holiday weekend.
The increased patrol staffs will be on roadways around Arizona through Monday, targeting different areas at different times.
“The best decision to make [if you drink is to] just call a cab,” said Scottsdale police Sgt. K.C. Moore.
Six people had been arrested Sunday on a DUI charge and brought to the Scottsdale-Tempe command center as of 10 p.m., an official said.
Saturation patrols are used instead of road blocks because the officers are better able to target people who exhibit signs of impaired driving, Moore said.
Once impaired drivers are caught, it usually marks a drastic change in their outlook, Moore said.
“People are very humbled by the situation” of getting a DUI, he said.
Anyone who has had too much to drink can get a free tow home from AAA. Call 1-800-AAA-HELP.
