The Maricopa County Elections Department says a recent mistake on Spanish early ballots sent out for the May 17 special election will cost taxpayers nearly $400,000.

The county had to reprint 700,000 ballots that will be handed out at the polls, and a letter was sent out to people letting them know of the mistake. This after the wording in the title for Proposition 124 was the same in Spanish as the wording for Proposition 123.

Spokespeople for both the Arizona Secretary of State and the Maricopa County Recorder say they were unaware of the problem until ABC15 brought it to their attention.
