PHOENIX - The Arizona Department of Economic Security held a career expo Wednesday where job seekers had a chance to meet with more than 150 potential employers.
The event was free to people looking for work.
Employers participating in the event represented a variety of industries including banking, customer service, engineering, law enforcement, restaurant, retail sales, marketing, security and software/IT.
Career Expo 2013 was held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Arizona State Fairgrounds located at 1826 W. McDowell Road in Phoenix.
According to Mark Darmer, with DES, 150 employers are hiring now.
"All of those employers have job openings. That's one of the requirements to participate. They have to have openings," Darmer said.
Darmer said that last year 5,400 job applicants showed up. He expects between 7,000 and 8,000 people this year.
"It's a good sign the job market is improving," Darmer said. "(We have) 25 more employers this year. (It's a good chance to) interact with employers."
