Fundraiser for 2-1-1 Arizona, hoping to raise $211,000

PHOENIX - When Valley residents have problems with healthcare, domestic violence, transportation, or housing one of the first places they can turn for help is 2-1-1 Arizona. Now though, it's 2-1-1 Arizona that needs help.

2-1-1 Arizona CEO Catherine Rea said her agency doesn't have enough staff to answer all the calls for help coming into their office.

"During peak hours we can't get to about 30 - 38% of the calls that come into us," said Rea.

Rae said she wants to hire about a dozen new staffers to try and fix the problem. Problem is, 2-1-1 Arizona doesn't have enough money to hire new workers.

That's why the agency is hosting a telethon. Starting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday donors can call 2-1-1 Arizona and donate by following the phone prompts.

Rea said her goal is to raise $211,000.

"We are kinda the unsung service here, but we are also the main starting point for people who need help finding a place to live or a place to get help with domestic violence," said Rea.

Donations can also be made through the agency's website at
