PHOENIX - Arizona will soon be the 19th state to pass the Blue Alert System, an emergency alert system that helps broadcast information related to catching suspected police officer murderers.
Gov. Jan Brewer will sign the law into effect on Thursday to help apprehend criminals involved in crimes against police officers.
The system, according to a media release, is similar to an Amber Alert. It would broadcast suspect information, vehicle descriptions and other detailed information to cut down on the time it takes to catch suspects who are a danger to other communities and law enforcement personnel.
"If a suspect is willing to kill or seriously injure a police officer, they are ready to harm anyone," says Jan Blaser-Upchurch, President of Concerns of Police Officers Arizona.
The system will hopefully be able to aid neighboring states and work as a cooperative effort between different agencies, media and the public.
