Costume model Cara Nicole Trujillo running for House seat in Arizona Legislature

PHOENIX - All sorts of characters run for seats in the Arizona Legislature -- even a costume model.

Cara Nicole Trujillo, a cosplay model, filed to run as a Green Party candidate in the Arizona House of Representatives last month.

She's seeking a District 26 seat, which includes Scottsdale, Mesa and the Salt-River Indian community.

Trujillo was on hand Thursday for the start of Phoenix Comicon at the Phoenix Convention Center. She said being a model is not a distraction and that she has not gotten any pushback, either.

"This weekend, it's kind of funny, I didn't mean for this to be my, you know, coming out. I'm here anyway. I've had this booth for five years. This is what I do," Trujillo said.

If elected, she hopes to tackle issues such as family law and immigration.

Republican Steven Adkins and Democrats Isela Blanc, Athena Salman, Celeste Plumlee and Michael Martinez are also running for the District 26 House seat.
