Arizonans to begin receiving early ballots

PHOENIX - The state of Arizona has started mailing early ballots to registered voters across the state as primary election approaches.

The Secretary of State's Office began mailing the ballots on Thursday to more than 1 million voters. The primary election will be Aug. 26.

Voters have until Aug. 15 to request an early ballot and they have until Aug. 22 to mail it back.

Voters registered as independents can vote in the primary election. The general election will be held Nov. 4.

The candidates for governor in the Republican race are Ken Bennett, Doug Ducey, Christine Jones, Frank Riggs, Scott Smith and Andrew Thomas. The Democrat running for governor is Fred DuVal.
