Arizona State Treasurer Jeff DeWit has been named Chief Operating Officer of Donald Trump's presidential campaign, according to a Wednesday news release.

”There's so much that goes into the operations of a campaign like this, which is basically like a very, very big startup company,” DeWit said.

DeWit, who was appointed Trump's Arizona campaign chairman in January, is volunteering his time to serve as COO. Although, DeWit says he isn't sure how much the new job will take him away from our state.

“I'm making sure that I will be upholding all the statutory and constitutional duties [for Arizona]. And [the campaign] is just a volunteer position of which I’m helping a friend on his campaign in my spare time,” DeWit said. "It is a sacrifice my family and I are willing to make for the good of the nation's future."

A Trump campaign spokeswoman tells ABC15 that DeWit, who makes $70,000 a year, will remain state treasurer.

“He's kind of making that priority number two if he's going to be out for the next few months working for the Trump campaign. So that's a little concerning that he's willing to put his constitutional duties as his second priority,” said State Senator Martin Quezada, Democrat from Phoenix.

DeWit said in April that he would not seek reelection in 2018. He was elected treasurer in November of 2014.

State Rep. Phil Lovas, who represents District 22, which includes Surprise, will replace DeWit as the state's new campaign chairman.
