PHOENIX - Break out your dictionaries! The Arizona Educational Foundation kicks off its 15th annual Arizona Spelling Bee this Saturday at 1 p.m.
The bee will feature the 27 best spellers aged 10 to 14 in the state, organizers say. Maricopa County has 12 spellers competing, Pima County has two and 13 other counties each have one contestant.
What’s at stake? The spelling bee winner gets a trip for two to Washington, D.C., and will compete in the country’s biggest spelling competition, the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
All of the 27 contestants in this weekend’s bee will get a dictionary.
The AEF Arizona Spelling Bee will take place at Arizona PBS’s studio on the sixth floor of the Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at ASU’s downtown Phoenix campus.
