The Arizona Game and Fish Department has decided hedgehogs are OK to live in the state, taking them off the list of restricted wildlife to allow them as pets.

The Arizona Daily Star reportsthat the hedgehogs that used to be sold in pet stores could survive in the wild of Arizona, making them a threat to native species. Wildlife officials have determined that the type that is now sold would not survive in the wild and won't be a problem.

A Tucson pet shop owner says he expects to have hedgehogs available for customers soon. An Exotic Pet Shop owner Kenneth MacNeil says people have been asking for them as they're cute and less intimidating than porcupines.
