TUCSON, AZ - Imagine getting a call asking if your husband is the Fort Hood shooter. It happened right here in our state because of a man with the same name, Ivan Lopez.
"I just want to make sure people are aware that I am not this gentleman," Ivan Lopez said.
The Ivan Lopez we spoke with is from Tucson but goes to school in Phoenix. He said he hopes putting his face on television will help clear his good name.
"I have done eight years of honorable service and throughout my eight years I've never been in trouble," he said.
You can imagine his surprise when people started saying he was the Fort Hood shooter. There are similarities between this Ivan Lopez and the one police said killed three soldiers and wounded 16 others earlier this week.
"Being Hispanic males, early 30s, both being in the military, being army, being soldiers and being stationed at Fort Hood," Lopez said.
But this Lopez hasn't been at Fort Hood in three years.
"We didn't have the same job, we really don't resemble each other," he said.
The hardest part, Lopez said, was when his nine-year-old daughter overheard a reporter ask his wife if he was the one responsible.
"She was a little distraught, all she heard was that I had gotten shot," Lopez said.
He said for his daughter's sake, he hopes this is the last he hears about the other Ivan Lopez.
