Arizona Legislature has busy wrap-up week planned

PHOENIX - Arizona lawmakers have an extremely busy week ahead as they attempt to finish up the 2014 legislative session.

Members of the House and Senate expect to consider more than 150 bills that have been working their way through the chambers since the session began in early January.  Debates are expected to last into the evening in the early part of the week. The House alone has scheduled votes on 44 bills Tuesday.

It's possible lawmakers could adjourn the session by Wednesday or Thursday but it may extend into next week.

The rush follows completion of a $9.23 billion budget for the next fiscal year that was signed by Gov. Jan Brewer on Friday.

Lawmakers will have to return for an expected special session to create a new child welfare department.
