Save the environment and get rid of your clutter for free during Earth week

Earth Day is on April 22 and it is a celebration of our planet. There are many ways to celebrate Earth Day during the week so join in on some fun events and learn ways to make the planet a better place.

If you have electronic items like big screen TV's, appliances or electronics don't stress about disposing of them properly. There are many places offering free drop-off for these items and they will properly dispose of them or repair and recycle.

The Lion's Club is holding an event on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28. You can drop off any item to be recycled, or have any electronics properly disposed of. Plus, if you have any sensitive papers, you can also get them shredded for free at this event.

The Lions Club International Scottsdale Lions Club recycling and paper shredding event:
April 27-28, 10 a.m -4 p.m. on both days
15255 N. Northsight Blvd  on the eastside of parking lot (Raintree & the 101)

Also on Saturday, April 27 from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., head to Desert Ridge Marketplace for their recycling event. If you have electronics like computers, printers, keyboards, telephones or anything that is electrical with a cord, it will most likely be accepted for drop-offs during this event.  A lot of these computer items will be recycled by the S.T.R.U.T.S organization.

Do some spring cleaning and donate some items. From April 22 through Friday April 27, the Downtown Phoenix Spring Cleaning is happening. You can donate items during this time. A lot of the donated items will be sold at the Recycle Phoenix Street sale happening on Saturday, April 28.

All of the proceeds raised during that sale will be used to help improve downtown Phoenix. They will use the money to buy shade for the trees, purchase plants and add art to our public streets. What a win-win!!

Items can be donated Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

You can also participate in Earth Day activities all year long by recycling at home with your curbside bin recycling container.

Jennifer Giacoppa from Earth911 shared some tips on what you can recycle and put in your curbside bin. Milk and drink cartons, juice boxes, metal clothes hangers (please tie together with a metal twist tie), phonebooks and window envelopes are all good items to recycle.

You can go to the Earth911 website to see the full list of things you can put in your curbside pickup bin.
