The grocery store wars are heating up in the Valley.
WinCo Foods is a new grocery store chain that claims to be committed to offering the lowest price possible. Of course I had to check it out.
I stopped in at the new Phoenix location last week and found some really good deals. As soon as I walked in the door I saw a display of Cheerios on sale for $1.78 per box. That's a great sale price.
They had tons of items on sale throughout the store. Kraft Macaroni and Cheese for $.48 each with a three box limit, a 24 pack of 12 ounce cans of Pepsi for $3.98 with a limit of one per person. A 10 pound bag of russet potatoes with a two bag limit for $.98. Just last week, one Valley grocery store had a five pound bag for that same price.
Keep in mind, WinCo Foods opened two Valley locations on April 1st and they have a ton of items on sale to get you in the door.
I also checked items that were not on sale because of the grand opening.
One section of the store that was very impressive was their bulk section. They had a huge selection; from all the candy you could possibly think of, to nuts, bulk cat and dog food, and even organic items too.
One example of deals in their bulk section was raw almonds, for just $1.98 a pound. I know at another Valley grocery store chain, those raw almonds would cost you at least $4 a pound.
The store is huge and they carry just about anything you could think of. I have made two trips to their store and still have not walked the entire store.
From what I have seen, however, I think WinCo Foods is going to be some tough competition if it keeps its pricing this low.
From the items I checked out in several different departments, all the prices seem to be very competitive.
As time goes by, and the grand openings of WinCo foods have fizzled out, make sure you are still getting the best prices. Always do your research to make sure you are getting the best price no matter where you shop.
WinCo Foods does not accept credit cards, only cash, check, debit or EBT.
You will also need to bag your own items when you check out.
You do not have to buy a membership to shop there and it is open 24 hours.
Currently WinCo Foods has two Valley locations on 330 West Bell Road in Phoenix and 5850 West Bell Road in Glendale and a third location soon to be opened in Mesa.
