Memorial Day weekend is around the corner!  In the world of shopping that means sales galore. But don’t get fooled into buying something that is not truly a sale.

Here's four tips to remember when shopping for savings:

RESEARCH PRICES:

As I always say, do your own research. Don’t let retailers tell you what’s a deal. Use price comparing apps like Red Laser, Shopsavvyand Amazon Price checker and try Google search or whatever tools you need to research to make sure you are buying something for the best price.

FIND DEALS TO STACK

Another way to you can save money at any time is by stacking deals. What does that mean? For example, let’s say you find a pair of Ked shoes on sale for $35. Take it an extra step and see if there may be another coupon, code or discount you can add to the already reduced price. That’s what we call stacking deals.  Try website or apps like Retailmenot or Coupon.

BE PREPARED

Make sure if you decide to shop in store that you have all of the shopping tool apps ready to go on your phone and use them. In addition, instead of walking around with a stack of sale ads use an app for that. Apps like Flipp have store sale ads in the app so no need for all the paper and the app is free.

HOW TO FIND THE DEALS:

My favorite app for finding things on sale is called Dealnews. They find the deals and post them in their app with a description of the deal. It’s a great resource to have on hand all of the time.
