Police shoot man with gun outside Tolleson bar

TOLLESON, Ariz. - Authorities say officers were forced to shoot a man threatening patrons with a gun outside a Tolleson bar early Sunday.

Tolleson police Sgt. Obed Gaytan said officers responded to the Fuego Bar and Grill near 91st Avenue and Van Buren Street around 2 a.m. for a report of a male with a gun.

Witnesses told officers an altercation occurred inside the bar and then moved into the parking lot.

They reportedly said a 27-year-old Tolleson man, identified as Peter Ledesma, pulled out a firearm and began pointing it at patrons standing outside the bar.

Ledesma walked across Van Buren Street into another parking lot.

Gaytan said when officers arrived Ledesma began shooting toward the crowd in the Fuego Bar and Grill parking lot.

Gaytan said officers were forced to shoot Ledesma who was transported to a Phoenix hospital.

Ledesma is listed in serious but stable condition. No one else was injured during the incident.

The Tolleson officer involved in the shooting was placed on paid administrative leave and the Department of Public Safety is handling the investigation.
