SURPRISE, AZ - Bee removal experts are busier than ever as bee season nears its peak in May.
They say a late rainy season has more flowers in bloom, attracting bees.
Bonnie Bean, a beekeeper in Surprise, says she had five calls in just the last week for bee extractions from area homes.
She offers these tips to keep from getting stung whether you’re in your own yard or out on a trail.
-Don’t swat at bees, it only agitates them.
-Stay calm, they can sense panic and will become more aggressive.
-Bees target darker objects, so wear lighter colored clothing. Even lighter colored jeans are less attractive than darker wash jeans.
-Bees like pools of water so avoid them.
-Cover up any cracks or vents around your house with fine mesh to prevent bees from getting in.
Bean adds that bees are most docile when they are traveling in swarms because they are usually full of honey at that time.
If you find a hive at your home, don’t try to remove it yourself, call an expert.
