Surprise police warn residents of telephone scam

The Surprise Police Department is warning residents about a telephone scam.

The police department posted on their Facebook page that it is investigating incidents in which someone is reportedly calling residents telling them they have a warrant for their arrest that it will be activated unless they pay a fine.

The subject then directs the resident to obtain a money order or pre-paid credit card within 30 minutes and then provide that information to the caller.

Investigators have determined that this is a scam to obtain money. Police want to clarify that no officer would request a resident to provide confidential information over the phone.

If anybody has any information about the scam, they are encouraged to contact the Surprise Police Department at 623-222-4000.
