Surprise police are investigating after a woman was found dead at a home near 175th Avenue and Greenway Road.
Just before 3 a.m. Monday, officers were called to the home in Surprise for a call of an unresponsive person inside a home.
"I just know at 4 o'clock in the morning something happened, because police were all up and down the street," said Michelle McElnea, who lives nearby. "This is not something you usually see in this street. This cul-de-sac, it's very quiet."
As officers arrived, they located a woman in her fifties who was determined to be dead. She has since been identified as 57-year-old Amal Bahjat.
Police say they are investigating the incident as a homicide. The official cause of the death is pending a report and autopsy by the medical examiner.
