Police: General threat against Shadow Ridge High School written in bathroom

SURPRISE, AZ - Police will be increasing patrols around a Surprise high school Friday after a threat was found inside a bathroom, an official said.

A spokesperson for the Surprise Police Department described the threat as general and said it targeted a specific student. Police do not believe the threat is credible and do have a lead as to who may have written it.

The threat was written on the wall of a bathroom at Shadow Ridge High School on Thursday which is located at Perryville Road and Peoria Avenue.

In a letter emailed to parents and posted onto the school's website , Michael Hawkins, the principal of Shadow Ridge, said "While there is no evidence to substantiate the general threat, we immediately contacted the Surprise Police Department as we take any and all threats to our students, staff or community very seriously."

Hawkins also said that classes would be in session on Friday.

Surprise police said it would increase patrols around the school tomorrow.
