Youngtown dumps police department to save money

YOUNGTOWN, AZ - Youngtown is turning to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office for protection after a vote was made to eliminate its police force Thursday.

After voters turned down a property tax to support the department, city officials in the town northwest of Phoenix recommended the Town Council vote to disband the seven-member force.

Youngtown officials said they have exhausted every effort to keep the 50-year-old police department intact.

Youngtown Mayor Mike LeVault says it's a move to save money for a town that is slowly going broke.
