SUN CITY, AZ - A former Maricopa County Sheriff’s posse member has been arrested after child pornography images were found on his computers, authorities say.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office says the images were discovered on the 73-year-old Sun City man’s personal computer by a computer repair company.
According to MCSO, a repair technician reported finding the images while working on the suspect’s desktop computer on Monday.
The technician reportedly found a large amount of images depicting what he believed to be child pornography depicting very young children involved in various sex acts with adults and other children.
On Thursday, detectives from the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Computer Crimes Division executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home and a laptop computer was located with a substantial amount of child pornography on it, authorities said.
MCSO says several hundred images of young children between the ages of 3 and 14 involved in sex acts were found on the suspect’s original desktop computer.
MCSO says the suspect is a former posse member with the Sun City posse and served on the board for a short time before resigning from the posse early last year.
Ken Colburn who founded Data Doctors, a computer repair company, says when they find evidence of a crime, they take action and call police.
“We want to protect children and to have somebody who is loose and out there perpetrating this type of activity. If they're dumb enough to come in ask me to do it, then I'm happy to turn them in,” says Colburn.
The suspect was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
ABC15 is not identifying the suspect as he has not yet been formally charged.
