SUN CITY, AZ - An 81-year old Sun City woman died in the hospital after she was shot by her husband according to Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies.
Virginia Sanders was found with a gunshot wound to the head at the couple's home on Friday.
According to court documents, MCSO investigators went to the home after 85-year-old George Sanders called the sheriff's office and told them he shot his wife because she was in pain.
Sanders, according to detectives, said Virginia asked him to shoot her.
ABC15 learned Sanders, despite being charged earlier with premeditated attempted murder, was released from jail.
Sanders answered the door at his Sun City home where the shooting occurred, but others in the home closed the door saying he had no comment.
It is unknown if new charges will be filed, or the circumstances of George Sanders' release.
Investigators noted in court paperwork that Virginia was recently seen by a doctor who recommended she be admitted to a hospital for a medical condition.
It's unknown what exactly the medical condition was that is referenced in the documents.
