PHOENIX - Joshua Barnes will serve two concurrent 15-year sentences after a violent home invasion in Sun City, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
On June 21, Barnes entered the residence of Dave and Audrey Sobley with a loaded weapon.
Around 1:30 a.m., Audrey awoke to see Barnes standing in her bedroom, wearing a long blonde wig and demanding to know where the couple "kept the gold."
Dave heard the commotion from his separate bedroom down the hall and went to investigate.
Barnes threatened to kill Dave if he did not return to his room.
When he refused to comply, Barnes proceeded to stomp on Dave's head and press his gun against his spine.
After Barnes redirected his attention to Audrey, Dave went to retrieve his revolver and fired a single shot, striking Barnes in his hand and neck.
Barnes fled the home but was later discovered and arrested by deputies from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
After Barnes' sentencing, Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said, "The court appropriately rejected this defendant's efforts to minimize the seriousness of his offenses and focus instead on the significant harm he caused these victims, who continue to suffer the aftereffects of this shocking crime."
