Peoria police, and other west Valley law enforcement agencies, are ramping up patrol on the road for Memorial Day weekend.

Dozens of officers will be hitting the streets around 6 p.m. Saturday in search of drunk drivers. The goal is to make sure everyone gets home safely from the bars and barbecues this weekend.

Drivers should expect to see DUI checkpoints until 4 a.m. Sunday., Peoria police said.

The DUI command post is being set up at the Peoria Public Safety Administration Building near Cinnabar and 83rd avenues.

The event is funded through a grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. Mothers Against Driving (M.A.D.D.) will also on-hand to provide food, water and support for officers.
