Oasis Elementary School was placed on lockdown after a suspicious man was reported in the area.

According to the Peoria Police Department, a man jumped over a school fence while students were at recess on Friday afternoon. The man made his way away from the school and the school was placed on lockdown.

Police say the man had barricaded himself inside a home without the homeowner's permission. They were investigating this as an active burglary situation. However, police later said the homeowner would not give police permission to enter the house.

Police did leave the area.

Police officers were sent out to the school when the incident was called out.

For safety, children at the school were bussed to 77th and Sweetwater avenues after school where parents could pick them up there.

The Peoria Unified School District said the lockdown was a precautionary measure.
