Police say a Peoria homeowner stopped a pair of thieves attempting to burglarize his West Valley home Thursday morning.

According to police, the man and his wife heard their door bell ring multiple times around 9 a.m. and ignored it.

They then heard glass break, and the husband went to investigate. He found two people trying to get into the home, with one of the suspects halfway inside.

Police said the man shot the 17-year-old intruder in the leg. Both he and the second suspect ran away and drove off in a light-colored sedan.

Police responded to the area after receiving a 911 call from the homeowner. An officer reportedly spotted the injured suspect at a Circle K at 75th Avenue and Cactus where he was taken into custody.

The second suspect ran off and has evaded police. A suspect description was not available. The 17-year-old is hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Peoria Police Department at 623-773-7045.
