PEORIA, AZ - A man was taken to the hospital Friday night after being shot in the arm by a Peoria police officer.
Police spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto said the shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. near 87th and Grand Avenues at a nearby apartment complex.
Officers approached the man after his mom said he was stealing from her. The man appeared to be reaching for something in his waistband. That's when the officer shot the suspect in the arm.
The suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No officers were injured in the incident.
Officers said the suspect was not armed.
