MCSO female chain gang to help deter DUI's at Lake Pleasant on Memoria Day

LAKE PLEASANT, AZ - If you’re headed to Lake Pleasant on Monday, you may see a crew of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s female inmates cleaning up the park.

According to a Saturday press release from MCSO, the DUI chain gang’s presence is meant to remind drivers and boaters this Memorial Day weekend not to drink and drive/operate a boat.

The female chain gang will wear shirts displaying the slogan “The D.U.I. Chain Gang, Clean(ing) and Sober.”

According to MCSO, most of the crew will be cleaning up after the park’s partygoers expected at the lake this weekend, but a couple of inmates will carry large signs reminding people not to drink and drive or operate a boat.

“DUI’s don’t just occur on the roadway, but on the water as well,” stated Arpaio.

According to MCSO, last year alone deputies arrested over 900 people for misdemeanor DUI; 1,367 people for underage consumption/possession; 83 people for felony DUI; and 128 people for OUI.
