PEORIA, AZ - Hundreds of people turned out to a Peoria bar in hopes of earning a spot in the upcoming season of “Extreme Weight Loss.”
The ABC show is hosted by Valley native Chris Powell who helps the contestants turn their lives around.
Desirea and Joseph Simiele are like your typical brother and sister.
"We're very competitive with each other,” Desirea said.
Only they're hoping to work together to impress casting producers for the hit show.
Joseph said, "It's an awesome show and what they do for these people is amazing."
Roughly 200 people showed up at the open casting call at Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill in Peoria.
The brother-sister duo say they've got what it takes to succeed.
“We're pushing each other to try harder and it's like if I can do it I know you can," Joseph said.
They say one of the biggest incentives to do well is that the show pays for skin removal surgery after the contestants have lost a lot of weight.
"That's one of my biggest fears with losing weight because I’ll never be able to afford it on my own,” said Desirea.
Casting Director Vanessa Bond says they're looking for people who are serious about shedding some major pounds.
"We want to hear why you're ready to lose the weight. Whether you've struggled all your life of or whether it was something that was impacted by an event," Bond said.
ABC 15 caught up with Desirea and Joseph after their turn in the group interview.
"When we were waiting to go in it felt like it took forever and then once you actually get in there it flies by so quickly,” she said.
