PEORIA, AZ - Police have taken a man into custody after two people were stabbed to death in Peoria Sunday night.
Peoria police say officers got a call of a stabbing around 10:45 p.m. and when they responded found a 54-year-old man and 58-year-old woman with stab wounds.
Both were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead, according to Peoria police Lt. Stephen Hadley.
Police arrested 27-year-old Benjamin Rodriguez Monday morning.
Hadley said there were half a dozen people at the home near 67th and Peoria avenues at a social event when the stabbings occurred.
Police spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto said someone watching the news this morning recognized Rodriguez and said he lived in the neighborhood near 111th Avenue and Indian School Road with relatives. Police went to the home and after some resistance, took the suspect into custody.
Jacinto said Rodriguez had prior arrests for drug-related charges and that he knew the victims fairly well.
Hadley said the man and woman were married but separated.
Rudy Calderon told ABC15 the female victim was a caretaker for his mother. Neighbors said there were regularly people at the house all hours of the night.
