PEORIA, AZ - Getting your financial house in order is probably something you think about, but have a hard time acting on.
Valley financial planner Jerry Guttman from the Guttman Financial Group is holding two free workshops in April as part of National Financial Literacy Month. Guttman is president of the local chapter of Society for Financial Awareness or SOFA.
Topics are expected to be retirement planning, social security, college planning, and understanding a 401k among others.
Many are having a hard time reining in spending. According to a Creditcards.com study, five in six Americans said they have made impulse buys.
While most of the splurges are inexpensive, more than half of the people who took part in the poll said they have spent $100 or more, and another 20 percent said they've spent at least $1,000 on impulse.

The first SOFA seminar is at the Sunrise Mountain Library in Peoria on April 19 from 6:30 p.m- 8:00 p.m. The second is on April 28 at the Chaparral Suites in Scottsdale from 6:30 p.m - 8:00 p.m.
