LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ - Owners of a Mexican food restaurant in Litchfield Park, where health officials say more than 50 people were sickened, has announced they will offer free food in a one-time "Come Back, On Us" promotion.
Federico's Restaurant held a news conference Tuesday morning to discuss the illnesses that occurred in July, and the steps the business has since taken.
Maricopa County health officials say at least 52 people were sickened after eating at the restaurant on July 23 and July 24. They are still trying to determine what items were contaminated with the E. coli bacteria.
The infection causes vomiting, cramps and kidney failure in some cases.
Federico's owners said the restaurant has since gotten a clean bill of health from Maricopa County and worked with the "Queen of Clean" Linda Cobb to work on cleaning protocols, a news release said.
The free food promotion will be held on Monday, Sept. 16. Customers will be able to visit any Arizona Frederico's location for a free breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. or dinner from 5 to 7 p.m.
On Sept. 30, the company will also donate 20 percent of their sales to the Arizona chapter of the National Kidney Foundation.
