A Laveen man intervened after he says a boy repeatedly body slammed a puppy to the ground in a neighborhood park near 51st Avenue and Broadway Rd.

“The first time I thought, OK, maybe it was just an accident,” Vic Barber told ABC15.

“But the second time when he clearly picked him up and held him in the air and threw him to the ground... that's when I knew; they’re not playing.”

Video from Barber’s home security camera appears to show the dog being slammed at least twice. He said he witnessed a third incident that was not caught on camera and filed a report with Phoenix police.

ABC15 tracked down the dog’s owner, the mother of the boy in question.

“I don’t really take this as animal abuse, these are kids playing,” she said but told us she did tell her son what he did is not OK.
