Emergency crews respond to two near-drownings involving toddlers in Phoenix

Emergency crews responded to reports of two near-drownings involving children Wednesday.

Colin Williams, spokesman for Rural Metro Fire, said emergency crews responded to a home near Combs and Gantzel roads in San Tan Valley after a 2-year-old was pulled from a backyard pool.

The child was under the water for less than a minute and CPR was given before crews arrived, said Williams. The child was alert and conscious and then flown to a local helicopter for evaluation.

Earlier Wednesday, crews responded to a home near 40th Avenue and Dobbins after a 3-year-old girl was pulled from a pool.

Tony Mure, spokesman for Phoenix Fire Department, said the child was alive and breathing shortly after being pulled from the water. The child was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

No other details were released.
