LAVEEN, AZ - Crews have managed to contain a brush fire that broke out Monday afternoon at the base of South Mountain on the Gila River Indian Community.
Phoenix Fire Department spokesman Scott Walker said the Dobbins Fire will be smoldering for a couple of days and will be monitored for possible flare-ups by Gila River fire crews.
The blaze burned approximately 10 acres in the area of 83rd Avenue and Dobbins Road, just outside the Phoenix city lines, according to spokeswoman Alia Maisonet with the Gila River Indian Community.
Air15 video showed plumes of smoke rising into the sky. Flames were also visible in dense brush at the Salt River bottom.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Crews worked to protect nearby structures and used water drops to control the fire, Phoenix Fire Department spokeswoman Michelle Miller said.
