MCSO: Suspect dies after confrontation with deputies in West Valley

GOODYEAR, AZ - Authorities have identified a suspect who died following a confrontation with Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies in the West Valley.

The incident occurred at a Circle K near Litchfield Road and Interstate 10 in Goodyear around 11:30 a.m.

No deputies were injured in the altercation.

According to MCSO Lt. Brandon Jones, the man, identified as 26-year-old Jesus Chacon, was wanted for questioning in connection with a body that was found along the side of a Buckeye road . The body of 51-year-old Mark Meginley, found concealed by a blanket or sleeping bag, was recovered last Wednesday.

Jones said it is believed Chacon stole a gun during a home burglary and used it to murder Meginley.

Undercover officers tracked the suspect to the Circle K, where he drew his weapon, prompting deputies to open fire.

Chacon was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Jones said there was a child in the suspect's vehicle, but there is no word on the relationship between the two or the child's age.

Southbound Litchfield Road road will be reduced to one lane for several hours, as authorities continue to investigate.
