GOODYEAR, AZ - Authorities say a school bus collided with a pickup truck in Goodyear, but only one student has been injured along with both drivers.
Goodyear Fire Department spokesman Russ Braeden said 14 students were aboard the bus at the time of Tuesday's 4 p.m. accident at the intersection of Van Buren Street and Estrella Parkway.
Air15 video showed several of the Bradley Academy of Excellence students being attended to on triage mats set up in the roadway.
Officials say a 12-year-old student and the bus driver were taken to a hospital as a precaution. The remaining 12 students were being picked up by their parents at a nearby Walgreens.
Daniella Antrate and her sister Sophia were sitting near the front of the school bus.
"There was smoke in the window and the window broke and I heard a big crrr," recalled Daniella.
"It was terrible. I fell on my leg and it still really hurts," she said.
"I was really scared. Really really scared," said Sophia.
Authorities say the driver of the flatbed pickup truck was transported to a Phoenix hospital with life threatening injuries.
Air15 footage showed the front and mid-section of the truck completely destroyed.
Witnesses say it appears the pickup ran a red light and hit the bus near its rear wheels, but it will be up to police investigators to determine the crash's cause.
Officials say students who usually ride the bus will need to find another ride to school for the time being.
