Glendale negotiating 15-year deal to bring Cardinals camp to University of Phoenix Stadium

GLENDALE, AZ - Will the Cardinals train in Flagstaff or Glendale this summer? That's the big question many fans are hoping to get answered this week.

The Glendale City Council is getting an update on the potential move Tuesday afternoon from the City Manager. The city is negotiating a 15-year deal that would bring Cards Camp to the University of Phoenix Stadium starting in July. Apparently negotiations are in the final stages, and we're close to hearing a decision.

The move would not only have a major impact on Glendale, but Flagstaff. The Cards have been training in Flagstaff since 1988. According to a Northern Arizona University study, Cards Camp draws in roughly 40,000 fans and pumps in about $10 million to the local economy.

Fans and business owners in Flagstaff have said they fear their loss if the team moves to the Valley. On the other hand, Cardinals President Michael Bidwill has said he thinks it will be easier for fans.

Andrea Shobe is the owner of Kristy Creations in Old Towne Glendale. She hopes the teams moves to Glendale because it could bring traffic to their normally quiet streets in the summer.

Cardinals Fan and season ticket holder Xavier Martinez agrees. He said he enjoys taking his kids and girlfriend up to Flagstaff where it's cool for Cards Camp, but he only goes for one weekend. If the team was in Glendale, he said he would probably watch them train more often.
