GLENDALE, AZ - Droves of people showed up for the grand opening of a new West Valley outlet mall on Thursday morning.
Tanger Outlets Westgate, near the Loop 101 and Glendale Avenue, features 80 outlet stores offering shoppers deals on their favorite brand-name clothing, jewelry, shoes and bags.
Tanger Outlets Westgate General Manager, Jessica Reeves, said she expects 15 million shoppers this year.
Stores didn't open their doors until 9 a.m., but many serious shoppers showed up hours before that.
"Open, open open," yelled one woman outside Nike.
Shoppers started lining up around the popular clothing store H & M around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Many people camped out after hearing the store was giving out $100-$300 gift cards to the first 100 people.
ABC15 caught up with Edda Arnold and her two daughters at the front of the line.
"We've been here all night and it's a good experience for me and the first time I've done this," said Arnold.
Her daughter said, "She's the coolest mom ever!"
They're excited to have such supreme shopping minutes from home.
"I think it's awesome to have an outlet this close, especially at Westgate. I mean Westgate is already cool, but now with a mall there's going to be so much more traffic," commented Olga Arnold.
Not far in line behind them, ABC15 talked with two Valley brothers who typically do their shopping in a different state.
Patryk Prasek said, "I have to go to California to get this stuff because they don't really have it in Arizona."
But not anymore.
"It's going to save us trips, we're not going to have to go to California anymore. Just stay here and stay at this nice mall," said his brother, Daniel Prasek
The duo ditched school to check out the outlets, but told ABC15 mom said it was okay.
Reeves said the outlets have created 900 part and full-time jobs and are expected to generate $11 million in annual sales tax revenue for Glendale.
