Police: Woman struck by motorcycle in Glendale dies; speed, impairment not a factor in crash

GLENDALE, AZ - A 61-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a motorcyclist in Glendale Wednesday, according to police.

Jay O'Neill, spokesman for the Glendale Police Department, said the woman was crossing Glendale Avenue outside the crosswalk around 7:15 p.m. when she was hit by a motorcyclist traveling eastbound.

He said the woman was not in the crosswalk. The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital where she died.

O'Neill identified her as Matilde Chacon, of Glendale.

The motorcycle rider, a 34-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and remained on scene, according to police.

O'Neill said the investigation is on-going. Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash, he said.

Glendale Avenue was closed from 43rd to 51st Avenue while crews worked to clear the scene.
