Suspect arrested after leading officials on pursuit in West Valley

GLENDALE, AZ - A motorcyclist is in custody after leading police on a short high-speed pursuit Tuesday afternoon in the West Valley.

Police said they tried to pull over Robert Tinta on northbound Interstate 17 after watching him speed in and out of traffic on the I-10.

Authorities said Tinta sped off leading police to Arrowhead Towne Center in Glendale.

Witnesses tell ABC15 he ditched his motorcycle, helmet and jacket in the parking lot before running inside.

"I was helping people at the bar and see him bolt right pass, he was in a hurry," said Julian Azzano who was working inside Johnny Rockets at the time.

Police said Tinta ran into Macy's and stole a pair of pants on his way into a dressing room.

Authorities said Tinta bought a soda next and tried to blend in with other shoppers.

"He's coming down the escalator, wearing his new pants, trying to be nonchalant," said Department of Public Safety spokesman Bart Graves.

"One of our sergeants is standing at the bottom of the escalator, looks up, and realizes this particular shopper is sweating and had marks of a helmet around his ears."

Tinta was arrested on the spot. Officials said no one was hurt.

Officials said he was booked into the 4th Avenue Jail in Phoenix Tuesday night.
