PD: Man shot at New Year's party in Glendale

GLENDALE, AZ - Police say a 21-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot at a New Year's party in Glendale early Tuesday morning.

Police spokeswoman Tracey Breeden said officers responded to a shooting call at a home near 59th Avenue and Bethany Home Road around 4 a.m.

When officers arrived to the home, they found a Hispanic man inside the home who had been shot. The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Breeden said an unknown suspect, who was believed to have been at the party, fired several shots into the home as he was leaving.

Roughly 15-20 people were at the house when the shooting occurred. The victim was standing inside the house when he was shot.

The suspect fled the scene before police arrived.

Jennifer Ochoa lives across the street and knows many of the people inside. "I heard the gun shots and people screaming and people going crazy because the cops were coming. They are like my best friends and I was worried for the little kids that were inside that house," said Jennifer.

Megan Anderson lives further down the street and also heard the gun fire. She has a little boy and said, "Knowing what happened down there, I don't really want to leave the house now. At least at night."

Breeden said no suspects have been identified. It is unknown at this time what led to the shooting, but police believe there may have been a verbal altercation that occurred during the party.
