Man shot in the face near University of Phoenix Stadium

GLENDALE, AZ - A 30-year-old man was shot in the face during an altercation in a parking lot near University of Phoenix Stadium Friday night while the Arizona Cardinals took on the Oakland Raiders.

Glendale police say the incident occurred around 9:30 in the 'purple' parking lot near the Hampton Inn.

Officer Tracey Breeden with said the incident began as an argument between football fans, both Arizona residents.

Breeden said the 57-year-old shooter was with his wife at the time, and called 911 after the incident saying he had accidentally shot the victim. The shooter did not try to leave the scene.

The victim was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, and Breeden said on Saturday the victim is in stable condition with non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect in the case was taken into custody for questioning and released by detectives.

Breeden said the names of the suspect and victim are not being released, and that charges are potentially pending against both involved parties however none have yet been filed.

Glendale PD released more information on Monday, revealing that the 57-year-old male and his wife were Cardinals fans, while the person that sustained the gunshot wound appeared to be a Raiders fan.

They stressed that there has been absolutely no information obtained by investigators that would point to a specific conflict that occurred prior to the shooting that was as a result of their differing team support.
